Transition Team

At a special called Council Meeting on July 24, 2012, the Council affirmed and celebrated the ministry and work of Tim and Amy Tutt among us and made preparations for the time of transition that is to come. The Tutts' last Sunday at UCC will be August 12.  At the meeting, the Council approved the creation of a Transition Team.  This Team will guide our congregation in important ways in the coming months. See below for the Transition Team's job description and roster.

Update - August 2, 2012

Things are changing at United Christian Church. We are celebrating. We are saying goodbye. We are moving toward exciting new possibilities. The Transition Team has been called by the Church Council to “prayerfully guide the congregation, and to serve as a point of coordination, during this time of congregational change and pastoral transition”.

Here is a brief overview of the results of our first meetings.

• Preachers are scheduled for six upcoming Sundays: August 19 - Steve Mook; August 26 - John Long; September 2 - Jimmy Cobb;  September 9 - Ken White; September 16 - Nikki Stahl; September 23 - Ken Ingram.

• Members of the Transition Team have met with staff members to discuss the transition and to gain a greater understanding of their needs and concerns.

• Both of our denominational partners (Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ) have been contacted. We look forward to their guidance in the coming months.

• A survey will be distributed to the congregation in the coming weeks.

Note from Elder Chair

Our church is entering a time of change.  Even so, God has a plan for us.  You only need listen to discover the way....and God is still speaking.

John Robinson, in speaking to the Pilgrims said, "Do not cling to where Luther and Calvin have brought you, for God hath yet more truth and light to break forth from his holy word".

The King James Version of the Bible (Cambridge Ed.) tells us; "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."

A comma (komma in Greek) simply means a time to pause in thought or idea (a pause or separation).  A whole lot of quotes to tell us, maybe, just maybe, that Tim leaving is not the end of a time for us but a time of pause to listen for "more truth and light".  This may be God’s way of telling us this is our comma. We need to keep listening.

If you need someone to talk to you, or someone to listen to you, or someone to listen with you, feel free to contact your elder.
