Being an Open and Affirming (ONA) congregation is more than just a technical, legalistic term; it’s a way of life. For our church, it means we strive to include all who walk through our doors and welcome them into the life of UCC. We accept them as deacons, as elders, as Sunday School teachers and more. Every member of United Christian Church is invited and welcome to attend our monthly ONA meetings. Please check the website calendar for the meeting dates and times.
On June 10, 2007 the congregation unanimously voted to be an Open & Affirming (ONA) Congregation and approved the following statement:
"We, the congregation of The United Christian Church, declare ourselves to be an open and affirming congregation, embracing diversity and affirming the dignity and worth of every person created in God's image. We welcome into full membership and participation in the Body of Christ persons of every race, ethnic background, age, gender, gender expression/identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, social-economic background, marital status and faith background. We welcome all to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities and blessings of participation in our congregation."
On February 12, 2012 the congregation amended the ONA statement to read:
“We, the congregation of The United Christian Church, declare ourselves to be an open and affirming congregation, embracing diversity and affirming the dignity and worth of every person created in God's image. We welcome into full membership and participation in the Body of Christ persons of every race, ethnic background, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, social-economic background, marital status and faith background. We welcome all to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities and blessings of participation in our congregation."
